Daily life goes on

Chililympics (otherwise known as a chili cook-off). Oct 11
We spent the afternoon tasting chili in all kinds of flavors, hot, mild, seafood, chicken... you name it. This took place along the marsh walk in Murrells Inlet.

Rain and flooding in the park

October 1-4
It began raining early in the week and it continued off and on until the weekend and then it really began to rain.  The water was rising and the beach was closed.  The governor asked that people stay off the roads.  So... we sat tight in our coach and watched the rain come down and the water rise all around us.  The park was closed for 3 days as we waited for the water to recede and the sewers to clear.

Water all around us.  We were beginning to wonder.

Here we are high and dry.

When the rain stopped, I walked on the beach.

Brook Green Gardens,Murrells Inlet SC

Life is good here.  We are enjoying our work, if you want to call it that, and our play.
Sculpture @ entrance to Brook Green
Done in Aluminum by Anna Hyatt Huntington

Brook Green Gardens
It was founded by Archer Milton Huntington, stepson of railroad magnate Collis Potter Huntington, and his wife Anna Hyatt Huntington to feature sculptures by Anna and her sister Harriet Hyatt along with other American sculptors. Brookgreen Gardens was opened in 1932, and is built on four former rice plantations, taking its name from the former Brookgreen Plantation.[3]
Brookgreen Gardens is one of the few places in the United States to have earned accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums as well as being designated a National Historic Landmark and listed on the Register of National Historic Places.
It is considered one of the finest outdoor collections of American figurative sculpture in the world.
It is a magnificent place!  T & I went there in our youth, and as all children thought it a great place to place outdoors.  If you are ever in the Myrtle Beach - Georgetown area it is a must see.

What I remembered most about Brook Green were the magnificent oaks.

Walkway and gardens
We spent an entire afternoon there and loved every minute of it.  Taking the sculpture tour, walking the Low Country Trail and viewing animals in the zoo and visiting the Butterfly exhibit.  The zoo is like no other.  It features native wildlife in their native habitat.

Rather than write more I’ll let you take a tour through photos.

Daily life at Myrtle Beach

Last Friday we had the pleasure of volunteering at Huntington Beach State Park to help with their 40th Annual Atalya Art Festival.  Though the weather was a little gloomy, the rain held off.  It was great seeing some old volunteer friends and having the opportunity to enjoy some great "beach music,"  as well and lending a hand.

T & Glo enjoying the music.

On Saturday we took in St. John's 24th Annual Greek Festival.  Great Food, music and dancing.

From reading this you might think all we do is go to festivals.  Not really.  We "work", if you want to call it that, five days a week for about 4 hours every day.

We are bracing for rain and wind this weekend.  Hurricane Jauquin is out there in the Atlantic creating lots of rain and flooding in Horry County and surrounding areas.  I took this picture on the beach around 2:00 pm today.  As you can see no one is on the beach.  Many of our campers are leaving early to beat the rain.

Deserted beach just before the rains of Jaquin.
