Trip to Biloxi Mississippi

Biloxi Trip

Deming NM 7/12/18.

RV park the Dimming Road Runner RV par ($13.50 PA) An OK park for an overnight not somewhere I’d want to stay for an extended stay. It was safe.  We went to dinner at Elisa’s Pies which is owned and run by a couple from Mississippi. Food was okay, not great.
We've all had a day where this
is how we felt.

Fort Stockton RV ($36) 7/13/18.

Great stop! Uneventful trip. Got in around 4. Setup and then relaxed in the pool, had dinner at Road Runner restaurant located right in the park. Great meal.

Comfort, TX 7/14/18.

At comfort we tasted and toured the Hill Country Distillery. John lead the tour and was a happy guy.

San Antonio,TX 7/15/18.

Stayed at Fort Sam Houston Fam Camp.
Met old friends from Kartchner, Ed and Anne Albert. They live at Blue Skies. Toured their residence area and caught up on things.

Lake Charles,LA, 7/16./18

Had a late lunch at Gillroy'sFamous Foods and talked a bit with Darby and Brenda Sue the owners. Brenda Sue remembered Angie & I from when we passed through there in March of 2017.  So much fun. We ate boudin and some of the best cracklin you've every tasted.  Doesn't look like much, but it's worth driving 2 miles from the freeway to eat there.

Drove the Cajun byway, hwy 14, supposedly one of the most beautiful byways in the US. It wasn't very scenic, but there were several old towns that would have been fun to shop around in had we been going through earlier in the day.  We stopped in Abbeville, LA and camped at a nice little park called Abbeville RV Park. Cost $24. No showers but they do have Wi-Fi in the park host me was just as sweet as she could be. She gave us lots of information a few things to see in the area.

Avery Island Tabasco Museum & Factory, New Iberia, LA 7/17/18

Tabasco Museum

Glo & Tabasco

The Tabasco plant museum had with lots of room to park the RV, a great restaurant and  excellent tour.  After the tour we  relaxed for a few hours before heading to Biloxi

We drove Highway 90 to stay off I 10 and it wasn’t too bad, bumpy in sections, but otherwise a comfortable drive not as hectic as the freeway and we used Waze as our navigation tool and it got us through and around New Orleans in all that traffic with no hitches we arrived at what we thought was the Fam Camp we were staying at in the pouring rain. It turned out to be the wrong place and we had to drive another 10 miles to Kessler Fam Camp, got in and settled around seven. It was pouring down rain so we didn’t do any setup  other than just getting some electricity and water.

Biloxi, MS

7/18/18
Though we had planned a day of sightseeing, the skies opened up and poured and stormed most of the day so we opted to sit back, relax and read.

7/19-20 More rain and heat. We visited the Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library, the last home of Jefferson Davis. Beautiful home.

Visited the Biloxi Lighthouse, one of the oldest still in operation. It is n the Guinness book of records as the only lighthouse in operation that is in the middle of a major highway. There are 52 steps to the top.

Learned Biloxi beach is a 26 mile man made beach.

The night of the 21th, the reunion started saw lots of old friends and made some new ones. We were inducted as honorary Duckworths. We were entertained by a presentation of Mya Angelo’s poem, I Will Rise, and some interpretive dancing.

Morning of the 21th, a little gambling with Cherri , I came out $20 ahead.
That evening we enjoyed a great meal and a presentation of the Duckworth family Geneaology that they traced back to when their great great great grandfather was a salve. Amazing information.

7/22/18 spent the day with Izzy.  Went to Ocean Springs beach where she could run on the beach. Strolled the beach, shared a snow cone with Izzy.  That evening we had dinner with Cherri and Bernie @ Mcelroys Harbor House Seafood Restaurant.

Left bassfield headed to Kilgore TX. Uneventful ride, other than being incredibly bumpy ride. At our first stop we found the coffee pot laying on the counter. Moved tit to the sink checked at next stop things seemed in order. When we stopped for the day I found TV trays on the floor, the shelving in the cupboard broken; canned goods everywhere, 10 eggs had broken and leaked all over the refrigerator. What a mess. All I could do was laugh. T left to get out of the way. He asked if I needed anything. At first I said no.  Then realized I needed eggs. Had another laugh. After cleaning the frig, I sat and had vodka and OJ to recover.  Traveling in an RV is always full of surprises.  Some good, some not so good.
Harris St RV Park, a city park with water and electric.  Not a bad place to stay overnight.

Waco, TX /Brady, TX 7/26/18

Waco is the home of Dr. Pepper.  I visited the Dr Pepper museum.
Dr Pepper is a carbonated soft drink marketed as having a unique flavor. The drink was created in the 1880s by pharmacist Charles Alderton in Waco, Texas and first served around 1885.
In the early days of the soft drink industry, the carbon dioxide gas was used for making the "fizz" in the water was produces by pouring acid over marble dust (SODA), the should made when a newly opened bottle was a popping sound (POP) = SODA POP.

Stopped for the night in Brady, TX. Stayed at Richard’s City Park. full hookups. Though nothing to see, the campground was nice and in a well visited city park.

Fort Stockton, TX 7/27/18

Being tired of driving and needing to rest, we stopped early at Fort Stockton.  Relaxed, enjoyed the pool and made new friends.

Bowie,AZ7/28/18

Mountain View RV Park, Dwaynes Fresh Jerky
Park is near the train tracks, but we were so tired, we didn't notice. Up early on the 29th and got home before noon.
